Video Electronystagmography (VNG)

At Integrity Physical Therapy and Wellness, we use Videonystagmography (VNG) technologies for testing inner ear and central motor functions. VNG testing is considered the new standard for testing because VNG measures the movements of the eyes directly through infrared cameras. When the head is in motion, the inner-ear balance organs send signals to the eye muscles to keep the vision in focus. Therefore, eye movements can be used to evaluate the balance system. Infrared video goggles are used. Patients are asked to follow a moving object with their eyes and sit and lie in different positions. Also, each ear canal may be irrigated with small amounts of warm and cool air. VNG testing is accurate, consistent, and comfortable for the patient. By having the patient more comfortable and relaxed, consistent and accurate test results are more easily achieved.
